Paper bag puppets are an easy and quick way to start having hours of fun. You can make a couple puppets and put on puppet show for your friends and family, or simply use them to practice your funny voices. We chose to make a Gilli Fishel puppet (see the image below or the character page to learn more about Gilli), but you can make any kind you would like. Go spooky with a monster puppet, or cute with a princess puppet, or perhaps cool with a dragon or knight puppet. With a paper bag, some art supplies, and your imagination, there’s no limit to what cool paper bag puppets you can create. Below are some simple directions to help get you started.

Directions
To make your own paper bag puppet, you need only follow these directions and remember to have lots of fun!
Step 1:
Find a steady and flat surface on which to work. Lay down newspaper to keep area clean (optional).
Step 2:
Decorate the paper bag anyway you’d like. Crayons, colored pencils, stickers, glitter, googly eyes, yarn, or whatever you can think of. We drew inspiration from Gilli Fishel, the lagoon creature, for our paper bag puppet. A such, we used a green and yellow crayon to color the bag, a marker to draw Tate the duck float, and yarn with white construction paper to make the lips and teeth.
Step 3:
Glue on all your accessories. We glued on a skull cap made out of blue construction paper.
Step 4:
Add the eyes to the top of the bag with glue. We chose yellow eyes and drew pupils on with a marker for our Gilli puppet. If you don’t have googly eyes, use a crayon or marker to draw them on.
Step 5:
Enjoy your creation! Come up with a funny voice to make it come to life and try putting on a puppet show for your parents and friends. If you made a Gilli puppet or a puppet of Felipe Femur or his friends, send us a picture and we’ll put it up on the fan art page.
